| Through
its neutral, friendly nature, the lyre or hand-harp sends out a call
to all nations to listen and participate. It has an ancient history,
but its voice has a timeless youthfulness. Its quaint sound surprises
the traditionalists, though the ease with which it can be used and
the quality of its sound are utterly convincing. Free from all received
opinion, it has the wonderful ability to provide, either in an ensemble
or in quiet music at home, something that one could call "the
key to the heart. Matters such as the range of the instrument
are determined according to the particular requirements of the individual
musician. |

And
now for the "Kaisers zither". It is a gift from
mother nature. It sounds like wood, like wind, like a bubbling brook
and the scent of a cosy room. It is, in every fibre of its being,
a truly vivacious and wonderfully modulated musical instrument;
it is so dynamic and has so much tonal colour that classical as
well as folk music sounds absolutely authentic, moving and, well,
simply appealing when played on it. It is, in fact, due to me that
now, after a hundred years or so, more than four different kinds
of contemporary zither can be seen in a zither exhibition. By the
way, it is called the "Kaisers zither"because it
is said to be a gift from the open-minded Kaiserin Sissi of Austria,
who loved to sneak out to public houses in disguise to listen to
zither music and celebrate with the lively country people.
